New York sales tax login

Sales Tax Web File lives inside Business Online Services and cannot be bookmarked. Here is the sign-in that works, and what to do when it will not let you through.

Reviewed against published state sources on August 21, 2026. Rules and figures change — always confirm with the agency before acting.

Ready to file? Returns are filed with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, never through this site.Log in to Online Services →Opens ols.tax.ny.gov, the Department's Tax Online Services Portal — the shortest route to Sales Tax Web File, which is otherwise several clicks deep. Sign in with your NY.gov ID; Web File itself cannot be bookmarked and is only reachable once you are logged in. New vendors can create a Tax Online Services account from the same page.

New York does not have a sales-tax-only login. Everything runs through one Business Online Services account, and Sales Tax Web File sits inside it. That is why the Web File screen itself cannot be bookmarked — it only exists once you are signed in.

This is the Department's own portal at ols.tax.ny.gov — the shortest route to Sales Tax Web File, which is otherwise several clicks deep from the tax.ny.gov home page.

Why bookmarking Web File does not work

Saving the Web File URL and returning to it later produces the message "You can only access this application through your Online Services account." The screen is generated inside an authenticated session, so the only reliable bookmark is the sign-in page above. Sign in first, then choose Services → Sales tax → Sales tax Web File.

What you sign in with

NY.gov ID
The same credential set used across New York State government services. A Business account is required — a personal NY.gov ID will not reach Sales Tax Web File.
Business Online Services account
Created once, from the same sign-in page. You need your Certificate of Authority details and the identifying information the Department has on file for the business. See creating a Business Online Services account.
Multi-factor authentication
Required. The Department will prompt for a code by text, voice or authenticator app on sign-in.
Zero returns still have to be filed

A return is required for every filing period, including periods with no sales and no tax due. A late no-tax-due return still carries a $50 penalty. See penalties and interest.

Common problems

You have a NY.gov ID but cannot see sales tax
You are almost certainly signed in with a personal account rather than a business one. Sales Tax Web File appears only under a Business Online Services account tied to the Certificate of Authority.
You are a tax professional filing for a client
Do not use the client's credentials. The client authorises you through E-ZRep Form TR-2000, which explicitly covers Sales tax Web File, and you then file from your own Tax Professional account.
You are enrolled in PrompTax
PrompTax filers use a separate process and separate deadlines, and do not qualify for the vendor collection credit.
You have not registered yet
Web File is not available until the Certificate of Authority is issued. Applications go through Form DTF-17, at least 20 days before you begin business. See the Certificate of Authority.

Common questions

What is the direct login for New York sales tax?
The Department's Tax Online Services Portal at ols.tax.ny.gov. Sales Tax Web File is reached from inside it, under Services then Sales tax. It is linked at the top of every page on this site.
Why can I not bookmark Sales Tax Web File?
The Web File screen is generated inside an authenticated session. Opening a saved link directly returns “You can only access this application through your Online Services account.” Bookmark the sign-in page instead.
Do I need a business NY.gov ID or will a personal one work?
A Business Online Services account is required. A personal NY.gov ID cannot reach Sales Tax Web File.
Can my accountant file sales tax for me?
Yes. You authorise them with E-ZRep Form TR-2000, which covers Sales tax Web File, and they file from their own Tax Professional account rather than using your credentials.
Is this website the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance?
No. This is an independent reference site with no connection to the Department. Every link above goes to the Department's own domains, and returns are filed with the Department, never through this site.
